The name of Villanova del Ghebbo was adopted in 1500 in reference to the stream that flowed nearby. The most valuable artistic building of this small village located on the banks of the Adigetto is the parish church, dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, built between the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries. Inside the church, we can admire the beautiful ceiling that represents S. Michael and the triumph of the Virtues, painted by Giovanni Battista Canal, follower of Tiepolo.
Not far from the historic centre, is the seventeenth-century oratory of Ca 'Nova with a baroque bell tower dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The small church is the object of great devotion because of the miraculous powers people attribute to the Madonna.
Until a few years ago, Villanova del Ghebbo was the main production centre in Polesine for the shoe industry. Today, from this once thriving business, remain just a few shops and laboratories.
