BADIA POLESINE

Badia Polesine is wedged between Adige and Adigetto and precisely the complex river dynamics determined its origin in the IX century. Immersed in a beautiful park, it is possible to see what remains of the ancient Abbey of S. Maria della Vangadizza, a monastery that hosted the Benedictine monks from the 10th century, to whom we owe the great drainage of the Polesine.
Not far away is the eighteenth-century Church of S. Giovanni which houses the ancient wooden statue of the Madonna della Vangadizza and the relics of San Teobaldo. In front of it, the Eugenio Balzan Theater built in 1813; for the beautiful friezes in gold leaf that decorate its interior has been nicknamed the "Little Fenice”.
The Balzan Collection, a rich collection of works by Italian painters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, is located in the theater. In Badia Polesine the great artist Bruno Munari spent his youth.
